Variegated Norway Maple

"Variegated Norway Maple No. 1" 2016 In uncertain times, I always look to the trees. This lovely variegated Norway Maple pulsated brightly in the Northern Norfolk winter light earlier this year. These pictures are not manipulated in any way. This is how vibrant the tree and it's surrounding environment was after a 6 week storm. The light, harder than I'm used to seeing and more penetrating due to its angle, cast a spotlight on objects below even in broad daylight. I suppose I've been living in a desert for so long that when I see a rain drenched scenery, my eyes and my senses explode. I was grateful to be surrounded by natures grander, even in the simplest tree at a local playground. I hope to never loose this sense of awe and felt compeled to share this beauty with you today, in these times, under a variegated maple tree. With love, Julie Green November 26, 2016 "Variegated Norway Maple No. 2" 2016 "Variegated Norway Maple N...

Norwich Market Portraits 2

"Norwich Market Portrait No. 5" 2016 My yearly visit to Norwich, England now includes an annual pilgrimage to the cities' medieval market stalls to photograph the hawkers and their wares. It is always a delight to stroll down the narrow lanes and peek into each stall to see what each one has to offer and to ponder their selection of items to sell. Those who grant me permission to capture their portrait are genial and open folk that take pride in what they do. It's not a glamorous environment but it is filled with camaraderie and a community of sellers who have a make a living out of turning a dime into a dollar. I look forward to continuing this series every time I visit this fair city and hope one day to exhibit them in one of their local galleries. My wish is to give back to Norwich images which will provide the locals a mirror to admire and ponder their jovial and hard working hawkers. Julie Green Septem...

Norwich Market Portraits

"Norwich Market Portrait No. 1"  Norwich, England is a fine city. My husband is from Norwich and we fly back to visit friends and family every year. No visit is complete without going into the city center to check out the many shoppes about town, especially Soundclash Record Store on St. Benedicts Street and  Philip Browne Menswear or Imelda's Shoes  over on Guildhall Hill. Inevitably we take a stroll across the street from the Guildhall to one of the oldest outdoor market places in England. The Norwich Provision Market  was founded in the late 11th century and has been going strong for over the past 900 years! It is flanked by an early 15th century Guildhall to the north which served as a center for local government and law enforcement. Outside of London, this building is the oldest medieval civic building in England. To the south, the market is flanked by The Church of St. Peter Mancroft   which is also from the 15th century and was finan...

The Last Page

"The Dolls Adventures in England"  I decided to change the ending in my first children's book "The Dolls Adventures in England"  since it seemed too sad to end on a note of disappointment and loss. So I hit upon the idea of surprise and unexpected elation instead. The premise of the story is that three dolls take a trip to England to surprise their friends: Mr. Brown, Mrs. Stone and Mr. Graves. Each time they try to visit and surprise each friend, they find that they are not at home. As soon as I printed a mock layout, I realized that the end must contain some levity and turning the surprise upon the dolls themselves seemed like a perfect way to conclude their adventures in England. For what child (or adult for that matter) would like to experience disappointment at their failed attempts at surprising their friends? As we will not be back to visit England until the Spring, I decided to photograph the final image here in Los Angeles. Luckily, there is an ...
