PATTERNS AND TONES

  I'm thrilled to be included in two group exhibitions here in Los Angeles, both of which will be opening next weekend and both of which include work I've done in the past but which have never been exhibited before. Earlier this year,  I decided to pull out photographs and paintings that still resonated with me. Fortunately, I found a platform for several images within these exhibitions.  I look forward to sharing these works with you and hope to see you at one or both of these exhibitions next weekend! Julie Green SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2025      On Saturday, I am so grateful to see "Capitaine No. 1" from The Mask Series shot in 2000 exhibited in a group show,  "Lost and Found: Open Call" ,  at the Los Angeles Center for Photography.   This exhibition includes works by artists from across the US who focus on queer joy.  In this moment, as the US marks a decade since legalizing gay marriage, and when people in power insist on marginalizing...

  "A Colorful Conversation" 2025 16x20" Gouache and flashe collage mounted on wood panel © Julie Green Since the Eaton fires in January, I have pivoted towards bold colored collages on paper. I had a choice between dwelling on what had just turned my world upside down in a negative way, or choose to focus on creating a world that could uplift myself and others during this very difficult year. It started as an exercise for another body of work that will be an investigation on resonance, coherence and the correlation between color and sound. I have had a deep relationship between both of these sensory mediums my entire life and cannot wait to allow viewers to "play the art" once they are completed next year! I was about to test various color combinations but didn't get further than crafting the first collage.
