PATTERNS AND TONES

  I'm thrilled to be included in two group exhibitions here in Los Angeles, both of which will be opening next weekend and both of which include work I've done in the past but which have never been exhibited before. Earlier this year,  I decided to pull out photographs and paintings that still resonated with me. Fortunately, I found a platform for several images within these exhibitions.  I look forward to sharing these works with you and hope to see you at one or both of these exhibitions next weekend!   "Abstract White Relief No. 4" 2024             The Lancaster Museum of Art and History have selected 3 of my abstract relief forms for their upcoming 39th Annual All-Media Juried Art Exhibition at MOAH:CEDAR which will be on view to the public from June 1 - July 20, 2024.  There will be a special opening reception at MOAH:CEDAR on Saturday, June 1 from 4PM-6PM.  As in previous years, the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation will consider each of the Best of Exhibition winners for acquisition into the Museum of Art and History’s permanent collection.  Visitors are also encouraged to follow the Lancaster Museum of Art and History and vote for their favorite pieces using #MOAHPeoplesChoice on Instagram and to vote in person up until the week of closing at MOAH:CEDAR. I am delighted to announce my first solo exhibition of embroidered photographs at Muzeumm Gallery. I hope you will be able to join me on Saturday, June 1st for the opening from 7-11pm. "Home as Hat: Andrea Minton" 2019 I originally started stitching this series of images with regular thread and came to the conclusion that I needed to use the thicker embroidery floss so that the colors would pop out from the background. Since I am working on an exhibition of this body of work, I decided to redo some of the earlier works that only used regular thread. This portrait of the lovely Andrea Minton was originally shot in 2016. As you can see in the original  Home as Hat: Andrea Minton , the regular thread I used was too small to have any impact on the "hat" I was trying to create. Looking at the structure of the roof in the photograph, I realized weaving the floss would mirror the asphalt shingles. I have not woven the thread before and feel that this treatment worked perfectly for this particular image. Julie Green April 27, 2019
