THE VULCANEERS!

"Do the Vulcan - The Vulcaneers No. 1" 2017 As I began to go through my archives from 1995, I came across a show I shot at the Purple Onion with The Vulcaneers along with Tokyo sensations The Titans . I remember it being a typically crazy night and most shots on the roll contain beer being chucked around the room in front of my lens. Luckily I captured a couple of shots of the bands without the swill! I contacted Lars recently and he graciously gave us the low down on the history and line up of the band. I'm happy to share with you today some posterized versions I created for this blog. If there was one thing this band shared with the rest of the goof rock brigade, it's that they knew how to have a good time. Do the Vulcan! Julie Green May 13, 2017 "Vulcan Tide - The Vulcaneers No. 2" 2017 Lars Nylander: Starting around 1994 in Los Gatos. five lo-talents got together to try and do for themselves what so many before them had achie...

Goofing Off with The Flakes!

The Flakes live at Pickwick Gardens I'm a huge FLAKES FAN! These guys are like family to me and it was a thrill to see them do their stuff all over again a few months back. At the Pickwick Gardens in lovely Burbank, CA, The Real Boss Hoss rolled out another great show with an amazing line up including the amazing vocal stylings of  Tiny & Mary , instrumental magicians Mercury Futuregrade, SpongeBob himself: Tom Kenny & The Hi-Seas and East LA 1960's Garage Rockers The Premiers ! Front man Peepin' John McDonald was in fine form as was drummer extraordinaire Russell Quan . Guitarist Greg Fenwick and JT on bass kept the goof balls jumping, while Sir Brett Stillo showed us all how it's was really done. I was recently able to pull out a slim interview with these flakey fellows. A few of the members filled in the blanks but overall these FLAKES stayed true to their name. You can catch them doing an amazing cover of "You're Gonna Miss Me...

The Phabulous Phantom Surfers!

It was a thrill to catch up with The Legendary Phantom Surfers.  This all boy surf quintet from the Bay Area arrived on our southern shores this summer and treated us to a lively set at the Viva Cantina in lovely Burbank, California, minus one surfer. Besides a small photo shoot outside of the club, I  captured them live for your viewing pleasure.  Watch it  here . I was able to squeeze the following interview out of several of the band members and what ensued was nothing less than pure frivolity from these masked marauders. Viva Los Phabulous Phantom Surfers! Julie Green September 26, 2015 Mighty Mel Bergman Julie Green: Crushed or Satin Velvet? Mel Bergman: Crushed considering the jackets are 19 years old and look brand new after hundreds of gigs.... Johnny Bartlett : Crustin. It's a hybrid. Russell Quan: I no know? Hee hee! JG: What is your favorite original song by the Surfers and why?   ...

Tiger Boy from The Mask Series

"Tiger Boy No. 1"  Tiger Boy was spotted lurking around Las Vegas many moons ago on the prowl for rock and roll. I was desperate to capture this rare cat in the wild and with some trepidation, took my chances with my trusty camera in hand. Suddenly around a corner, I was confronted by this Tiger Boy who as it turns out was just a big ol' pussycat! Tiger Boy is the 16th set of images from  The Mask Series . As always, two limited edition prints  are available to purchase through my  Etsy store .  Julie Green September 19, 2015 Subscribe to our mailing list "Tiger Boy No. 2"  "Tiger Boy No. 3"

Catching Up with The Count Backwurds

It was a rare treat indeed when The Count Backwurds rolled into town and played an amazing set at Cody Bryant's Viva Cantina in Burbank, California for Real Boss Hoss this Summer. It was their first show in 18 years and the kids packed the back room to see these Goof Rock greats. With Peepin' John on vocals, Brett Stillo on guitar, Steve Cox on bass and Russell Quan on drums, it was indeed a 1995 flashback and a reunion of sorts with pals from near and far lining the room like it was a Saturday night at The Purple Onion .  Here's a  video  I shot of them covering the fab tune "No Reason to Complain" by  The Alarm Clocks  for your listening pleasure. The following interview brings no light to any of my questions but does raise quite few! As those of us who know this lot of hooligans, we wouldn't expect anything less, and that's why we love them... It is with great pleasure that I present to you: The Count  Backwurds!
