Angles in August: Paul Mills

The second installment in this months Angles in August series features Paul Mills, owner of the finest independent record store in all of England. Situated in the historic city of Norwich, Soundclash is the direct result of Paul's lifelong passion for music, indeed the very vehicle in which he made his life long career.

I'm thrilled to present to you this woven portrait of Millsy, a true defender of independent music.

a true PUNK ROCK story

1977     all i could think about was Punk Rock
1978     I hung around record shops and only sometimes went to school
1979     I got kicked out for not going, so I got to help out at Backs records & got a job.
1991     I opened Soundclash
2016     I make 25 years

Soundclash is the longest established Independent record shop in Norwich and was opened in February 1991. The Norwich city centre shop specialises in new releases, independent and underground music from around the world on vinyl and CD and is also the frontline city centre stockist for gig and festival tickets, Portable Turntables, Retro Style Record Players, magazines, record boxes, bags and cases, music accessories and related products along with high quality previously loved vinyl and CDs and a few books.

Soundclash was named one of Britain's best small shops by the Guardian in 2007 and offers a unique shopping experience, allowing customers to listen to vinyl or CDs in store before purchasing, offering expertise, recommendations and a high quality personalized service, selling products that are hard to obtain at competitive prices.

Soundclash is the only city centre gig ticket outlet for UEA, LCR and the WATERFRONT and WATERFRONT STUDIO venues also now stocking all OPEN tickets and some Norwich Arts Centre, Owl Sanctuary, Space Studios, Red Rooster Festival, plus many local and some national events including other festivals.

Independent record shops have been increasingly challenged from all sides which is why so many have gone out of business - a big thank you to all the loyal customers who understand that they need to use us or lose us! If you haven't been in for a while, or ever, come in and find out why customers from all over East Anglia have come back again and again for the last 25 years!
